Dare to be different

I was invited by a government department to speak about diversity in our nations capital last week.

I made these three points.

  1. You have to be willing to embrace diversity because all of us are smarter than one of us.
  2. You need to really “see” people – on accepting the Cecile B De Mile award recently Oprah Winfrey said “You have no idea of the power
of noticing another human being and what it feels like when someone knows that they have been seen, truly seen by you!”
  3. Always lead with love – empathy means that you are willing to understand another persons map of the world because you can never truly lead someone if you judge them.

If you happen to be in a leadership position, remember your success and your team member’s success cannot be separated, the better they do the better you do.

In closing my talk, I was asked about women in leadership. Here are my thoughts. Ladies, don't wait for the opportunity to present itself, make it happen. Click To TweetPrepare yourself so that your transition to leadership is smooth. When given an opportunity, don’t doubt yourself, take the shot! and dare to be great, dare to be powerful beyond measure. Your time is NOW!
